Poipu Beach Park is the perfect snorkeling spot in summer. In the winter it is hit and miss if the snorkeling will be good, as it can be a bit stormy. This happens to be one of those stormy winter days. However, the beach is always warm enough to sun bath.
Poipu Beach park has restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and lifeguards. There’s a wading pool for toddlers and young swimmers.
Kauai is a nesting place for green sea turtles. They come to Kauai to lay their eggs between the months of May and September. The best place to spot the sea turtle is right here on Brennecke’s Beach also known as Poipu Beach park.
During the summer months, there is a good chance you will see a turtle or two on Poipu Beach, like these. A green sea turtle may lay over 1,000 eggs in a single season. They are protected by state and federal law. You may also see the sea turtle while swimming or snorkeling. Just be careful, as they can snap. Usually, the lifeguards warn the beachgoers to stay away from them.
Poipu Beach is also famous for the endangered Hawaiian monk seals that sometimes sunbathe on its shore. There are only about 1,200 Hawaiian monk seals remaining and many swim in the waters around Poipu. Please respect the roped off areas to protect both the turtles and monk seals
